Rewatching apocrypha, I can see why there are people who dislike it....I wouldn't go as far as to call it bad, there are a lot of similarities with plot points, if not ones inspired by the original fate visual novel's routes. Like a servant who fights for others voiced by Junichi Suwabe who gives the protagonist a part of their body to save their life, which will *redacted due to spoilers* and their character disappears after giving said body part...

To add some info on the cgi, the studio in charge of it has won an Oscar this year for the movie "Godzilla minus one" ! It has fantastic movements, one of the best cgi models in the entire anime industry :) On a more general note, the entire staff of the anime is really experienced, having worked on shows/movies like Kaguya-sama, The Promised Neverland, Mirai, Erased, Your lie in April, and many more. The best thing I have to say about this show in particular is the incredible direction of Mr. Ishii, which is the first anime in which he is entirely in charge of the direction. The composition is also one of the best I've ever seen. They also play a lot on perspectives. Eighty six is the type of show that plays a lot on the details, having this "show, don't tell" approach to storytelling. They respect the viewers enough to trust their intelligence on picking up certain details, subtleties like the point of view of characters and their mental states. That's why 86 needs a lot of cognitive space from the viewers (this isn't the type of show you could watch on the couch at 4am being half asleep lol) Of course, the music and sound effects are flawless, nothing else more to say honestly. I'd recommend it to anyone who's ready to give it a go !

VERY underated anime, it's storytelling was so unique I HAD to buy the novels afterwards. Why 86? It's an irl slang term with a dozen meanings I won't spoil. Let's just say Asato's one of those anime/novel authors that uses the meaning of words and names so expertly that if you research them you'll find 86 has multiple stories hidden within itself

1:01 I don’t know why the translators think it said sister. Neither of them are related despite being from Greek mythology. In the translation I watched Achilles called Atalanta missy. They are not related in Fate lore and the actual mythology they only ever interacted once when Atalanta was in the argonauts with Peleus who’s Achilles dad. Also side note Achilles is THE fastest heroic spirit in existence. No matter what he will always be faster. One of his noble phantasms makes him the fastest on the battlefield and another makes him faster the longer he’s moving. If his heal is damaged though he loses his invincibility and I think it’s either 70% or 90% of his speed as well as some of his strength. 4:24 also it doesn’t matter how powerful something or someone is, so long as they don’t have divinity or a divine weapon they can’t hurt Achilles which is why he was just playing around here. 6:31 the reason it’s a big deal is that Chiron not only has divinity but he’s the only person in the black faction who can hurt Achilles.

When I first watched apocrypha, I binged the series then, I was so glad that they gave Karna the chance to go wild...like, bat-sh*t insane wild with his power. When I first met him in fate/extra ccc, I thought he wasn't living up to his full potential in combat, due to his master there. I saw a taste of it when I was playing fate/extella, but this was the first time I could really see him fight and genuinely think "Man, that's op" without any plot point to nerf him...I won't go further due to spoilers...
